Last night me and dad went to see Amy Lou, the Tipton songstress who wowed audiences at Britain’s Got Talent 2023, at Wednesbury Town Hall.
Amy Lou auditioned with Beyonce’s Listen and her audition received a lot of attention as she was heavily pregnant and she gave birth to her daughter hours after the audition aired on TV. She ultimately made the Final and placed 7th, with Viggo Venn winning the series.
She has become a very popular singer in the area so when the show appeared at Wednesbury Town Hall me and dad decided to go along. It was also my first visit to the Town Hall, though my dad remembers it when it was more widely used as a dance hall in the 1960s.

The show was opened by Marc Bolton who is a very funny guy and a great singer as well which got us into the mood of the night perfectly. His wife Louise was operating the lighting for the night and there was a lot of jokes as he moved around the stage to try to make her keep up. He also did some really funny jokes of putting the worst song that you could by mistake, for example playing “Who Let The Dogs Out by Baha Men “for the Ladies in the room”.
Then of course Amy came on stage and sung a selection of her favourite songs from a whole breadth of genres. She opened with that now iconic cover of Listen and whilst I was going to put the YouTube clip from BGT above, it felt even better to hear it live so here is my own clip of the song.
Amy then took us through whistle-stop tour of songs spanning all years and genres, from musical theatre, rock, Motown and soul and even reggae. There was definitely something for everyone in the playlist and me my dad both agreed it showed off her versatility even more so than her BGT performances.
After a brief interval, Marc joined Amy on stage for a duet of “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life” from Dirty Dancing and it was clear the two are good friends in real life and both vocally were brilliant together. As Amy then continued her setlist into more disco and dance territory people began to get up and have a little dance on the dance floor (me and my Dad also had a little dance on the balcony!).
It was a very entertaining night with two fantastic performers and I will also be checking out what other shows are on at the Town Hall in future.
Amy Lou is about to embark on a nationwide tour, with tickets available here.
Marc Bolton performs around the UK and you can follow him on Facebook for details of shows near you here.
